Our Journey with our 5 year old boy
We have been foster parents to a 5 year old boy since August of 2007. Georgia law allows for the Department of Family and Children services to file for Termination of Parental Rights for a child after the child has been in care for a year if the parents have not been successful in working what’s called a case plan. This has happened with the parents of this child. Our court date was December 4th. The parents have 30 days from that date to appeal the courts decision. The 30 days are up and we are waiting to hear if either parent appealed. The mom is not a bad person, just young and in survival mode herself. She has two other children that she is trying hard to take care of. My heart goes out to her. As for our plans though, this almost six year old child will become a permanent member of our family before the year is over is things go well, Yeah!
